One More Day Until 2014 Ko’ko’ Registration Closes

Post-Race Festival immediately after GVB Signature Event
(Tumon, Guam) The Guam Visitors Bureau (GVB), along with the Pacific Islands Club, T Galleria by DFS, Docomo Pacific, Powerade/Fruita+, the Stations of KUAM and United Airlines are reminding the community that registration for the 2014 Guam Ko’ko’ Half Marathon and Ekiden Relay ends tomorrow, October 15, 2014. Participants can register until 5 p.m. tomorrow at the GVB Tumon Office, as well as online at www.guamkokoroadrace.com until 11:59 p.m. tomorrow night.
“We couldn’t be more excited to celebrate the 9th year of the Ko’ko’ race this coming Sunday! It’s great to see so many people committed to their training and we have great incentives to reward our participants for their hard work. We’ve already surpassed last year’s half marathon registration numbers,” said GVB General Manager Karl Pangelinan. “On behalf of GVB and our Ko’ko’ sponsors, I want to personally thank each and every one of you for your continued support of this signature event.”
Post-Race Festival in Tumon
In addition to the Ko’ko’ ditty bags being given out during Saturday’s (10/18) mandatory packet pick-up from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the GVB lower level parking lot in Tumon, Ko’ko’ participants will also receive a finisher’s medal, dri-fit T-shirt and a post-race breakfast. They also will be given chances to win a variety of raffle prizes to include a 40” TV courtesy of Docomo Pacific, annual membership to Synergy Studios and another pair of round-trip tickets to any United destination in Asia, Micronesia or Cairns, Australia.
Local food vendors including Pacific Island Månnge’ Popsicles, Elsie’s Smoothies and Guam Coffee Co. will be selling a variety of refreshments for participants and spectators to enjoy at the Ko'ko' Post-Race Festival in Governor Joseph Flores Memorial (Ypao Beach) Park. Other Ko’ko’ booths will include cultural activities, a Festival of the Pacific Arts center, live art demonstrations and entertainment by DJ JPogi.
Ko’ko’ Registrants Win Big
In an effort to promote the race and motivate registrants to keep up their Ko’ko’ training, sponsors offered a variety of prizes through social media promotional contests on facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
In fact, ekiden runner Jenina Muña won two round trip tickets to Hong Kong courtesy of United Airlines. Additionally, Melissa Roundy, Abbie Westad and Lorna Anicas also received a two-night stay at the Pacific Islands Club and a case of Powerade and Fruita+.
Upcoming Road Closures
The public is being informed that the following roads/lanes will be closed during the times below and may affect travel into and out of respective business/residences along the race course on Sunday, October 19, 2014:
2:00AM – 10:00AM – ROAD CLOSED
Route 14 (San Vitores Road) from Ypao Road intersection to Route 14a (Pacific Star) intersection.
4:00AM – 9:00AM – ROAD CLOSED / DETOUR
Middle and outside south bound lanes on Marine Corps Drive, between Route 1 and Route 14a/K-Mart intersection to Route 1 and Route 14b/Ypao Road intersection.
4:00AM – 9:00AM – ROAD CLOSED / DETOUR
Outermost south bound lane on Marine Corps Drive, between Route 1 and Route 14b/Ypao Road intersection to Route 1 and Route 6 intersection at Adelup.
4:00AM – 9:00AM – ROAD CLOSED / DETOUR
All south bound traffic on Marine Corps Drive, between Route 1 and Route 6 (Adelup) to half-marathon turnaround located across from JWS Equipment in Asan. Southbound traffic to detour up Route 6 and then through Nimitz Hill as alternative route to Marine Corps Drive, Piti.
